DJ Malcolm Marshall Biography
I have been creating blends and mixes of music and culture since 1986, including thousands of appearances in the San Francisco Bay Area and around the world. I started out making “pause mixes” on double cassette decks and learning to scratch on my father’s turntable when he wasn’t home. Over 20 years later I am a night club and special event DJ, who also remixes and works in radio. I keep it funky and eclectic on the dance floor!
I have a passion for funky music and I am knowledgeable in many styles and genres including Funk, Hip Hop, 70’s & 80’s, Jazz, World, House, Rock, RnB and Afro Beat. I do play popular music but I am not a slave to the top 4o charts. Good music is like good food, just because it’s for sale doesn’t mean you have to eat it. I try to showcase the quality, history and connections in music.
My first pro club gig was in Hollywood, Ca at “The World” nightclub at the age of 20. My residencies have included Storyville (SF, CA), Mark’s Cafe (DC) and Lucky Lounge (Oakland, CA)
But club djing can be limiting so I love to take on many different gig opportunities such as weddings, birthdays, and private dinner parties. I have been a part of many holiday parties and gala’s. I love to open up for bands. People call me when they need a vibe or they’re planning a celebration!
I have turned parties out at many places and I’m looking forward to many more!
