Its a small greenhouse with a king size bed. There’s a sink a microwave and and a tiny fridge. Colorful paintings are on the walls. A smiling rooster, an angel in her and red boots. A fat couple dancing holding eachother close. African women gathering fruit. A naked woman at the creek. There is a tree in the middle of the room and a jasmine bush that smells of magic. The wood burning stove doesn’t work. The toilet and sink are right outside the door. A wooden deck has a table and chairs and a front row seat to witness the dance of the ocean and the shore.
An outdoor shower is nestled in the corner next to the bushes. Simplicity. No tv, no phone recption.. No sounds except the ocean and the birds. All day all night. Pretty purple flowers are everywhere. Some yellow, some orange. Thick green grass to walk barefoot on. The sun is breaking through the clouds. The heat feels good. Stay for awhile and kiss me sun. Ocean as far as I can see.
janelle monae show in sf March 23, 2010
Last night Audrey and I got into cafe du nord for the janelle monae show. Tickets were selling on craigslist on over 200 dollars. Luckily we got in for the original price, 12 dollars.
Du nord is a fun place to see a show. Atleast for me. Small venue, cool vibe. Our waitress was so cool. She hooked us up with one of the few side tables right as the show started. The opening act was pissing some people off so we were ready when janelle’s “movie” started.
Miss monae is a great talent. The girl can really sing. She is one of those people that make it look easy. Singing great is not easy. She gave a lot of her self right from the start. And she never seemed to get tired. That was impressive. Her eyes, her hair, her dancing. Everything had the crowd wrapped up in her. Half the music was recorded and half was live so it made for a very full sound. The songs were soulful pop in a michael jackson kind of way. But there is bold passion in the music as well. Plus she has some bona fide hits, like “Tightrope”. I really like this girl. She is the kind of performer that should be on mainstream radio but probably won’t be cuz she is too deep. She does her own thing. She is smart and her hair is beautiful. Beautifully progessive and black.
The lighting is setting the mood to every song. The flashing strobe bounces with the hyper beats. Then janella poses and the lights fade to black. I check on Audrey to make sure she is okay. She is all smiles. Thanks miss Monae. U made for a great date night out.
And just maybe our baby will fly.

We saw this last night on Fillmore after the gig at the boom boom room. The dj afterworld of sorts. Maybe the dj is dead already. Wack radio killed the dj by feeding the masses low energy music.

So I Audrey and I had dinner tonight at Stellina in Point Reyes Station. I had goat with polenta and chard while Audrey had mussels with beef hot links. Very good indeed! If your out this way give it a try. Our waiter said everything on the menu was special. We are so satisfied!!!!!
